Steering & Suspension

Your vehicle’s steering & suspension is constantly under stress.  There are too many possibilities to list them all, but some of the possible attacks on your steering and suspension system include pot holes, railroad tracks, curbs, road debris, snow, salt, rain, gravel, and all types of dirt and grime.  These attack your steering & suspension components every time you drive.

The primary components of your suspension system are shock absorbers or struts, springs, control arms, anti-roll bars, ball joints, bushings, and your tires.

Alignment = When perfectly aligned your vehicle can drive in a straight line without pulling left or right.  A shock such as hitting a pothole or a curb can quickly knock your vehicle out of alignment. If your vehicle is pulling to the right or left, there is a good chance it is out of alignment. A system that is out of alignment will lead to uneven tire wear, potential difficulty steering, and can see a reduction in your mileage.

Worn-out Shocks = If you are experiencing a rough ride the primary reason is normally worn out shock absorbers. Also, if you are feeling every little bump as you drive, and your vehicle bounces when going over bumps, there is a good chance your shocks are worn and are in need of replacement. Worn out shocks will impact your handling and safety.

Struts = It is not uncommon to find struts instead of shocks in newer vehicles.  When struts fail you will often be able to tell because you will hear a knocking or pounding noise when  going over bumps or railroad tracks. Like shocks,  struts are vital to your vehicles handling and safety.

Springs = Your vehicle’s springs are supported by your springs.  With age, failure can occur. If you notice your vehicle is lower on one corner or seems to lean when cornering, and/or you feel and hear clunking noises when going over bumps, your you may have a failing or broken spring.

With all steering & suspension components problems are primarily noticed by a change in the handling or “noises” that suddenly begin.
