Indicators of Transmission Problems

The transmission of your vehicle takes a lot of use over time and will eventually start to show signs of an issue. While any transmission repair may be expensive, it is important to notice anything that may seem out of the norm. Make sure to bring your vehicle in so we can inspect it for what the issue may be. We can then advise you on what your options might be.       As you are driving, you may start to notice the smell of something burning. This may be an indication that the transmission is overheating. The transmission fluid not only helps to keep the moving parts of the transmission properly lubricated, but it helps prevent the unit from burning up. A common cause of the smell can be from low transmission fluid. When this happens, this can mean there is a leak or dirty fluid that needs to be changed.         Noticing any noises while your vehicle is in neutral could mean an issue with the transmission. Sometimes a quick and easy fix can be replacing the transmission fluid. The vehicle owner’s manual will provide the best kind of transmission fluid needed for your vehicle. If there are noises while your vehicle is in neutral, it could mean that some parts may be in need of replacing.       An easy sign to know that your transmission may need attention is if you notice any leaking transmission fluid. The transmission fluid helps to maintain your vehicle’s shifting capabilities. If you check the transmission fluid, it should be bright red in color. If the fluid is dark in color, you should bring your vehicle in so we can have it replaced. Unlike the oil, the transmission does not consume or burn off any fluid during operation. If you notice that the transmission fluid is low or empty, there is probably a leak somewhere in the system.       If the check engine light comes on, it may be an early indication that there is an issue with the transmission. Granted, there may be other reasons why the check engine light comes on rather than with the transmission. It is important to make sure to bring your vehicle in as soon as possible if you notice the light on, especially if it is blinking.       Transmissions are designed to go to the correct gear every time. A way to notice you may have an issue is if they hesitate or refuse to get in the correct gear. The vehicle should shift quickly into gear, but if you notice any hesitations or swaying feeling, there could be an issue with the transmission. If you notice an issue with the vehicle, make sure to bring it in as soon as possible so we can inspect it for you.

What to Look for When New Tires are Needed

Before you drive your vehicle, make sure to inspect several parts of your vehicle. Make sure that you take a few minutes and inspect the tires on your vehicle. The tires should be free from any cracks, puncture marks, or bulges that it might have. If you notice something that is out of the norm with your vehicle, make sure to bring it in as soon as you can, so we can inspect it for you. If a repair is needed, we can advise you on the options that you have. You need to be aware of three things when deciding if you need new tires…tread wear, exposure to the elements, and the tire age.   With this easy test, a penny can buy you peace of mind when it comes to your tires and safety. Place a penny head first into several tread grooves across the tire. If you see the top of Lincoln’s head, your treads are shallow and worn. If this is the case, your tires need to be replaced. If part of Lincoln’s head is always covered by the tread, you have more than 1/16 of an inch of tread depth remaining. This means you probably do not need new tires. You can also bring the vehicle in and we can inspect the tread on the tires. The most important reason to worry about tread wear is safety. When your tire treads is worn, your vehicle may respond poorly in adverse weather conditions like rain and snow. With good treads your car will grip the road better.   Exposure to heat and the sun’s ultraviolet rays may cause structural changes to your tires. If you park outside, try not to have the vehicle in direct sunlight. This can dry out the tires and cause dry rot. Learn how to properly store your vehicle if you are not going to drive it for several months or longer. This can help keep the vehicle lasting as long as possible when you drive.   You should know how old the tires are on your vehicle. Regardless of tread wear, vehicle manufacturers generally recommend you replace your tires at six years. Most tire manufacturers recommend you replace your tires at ten years. Check the manufacturer’s recommendations on your specific tires. You can also bring the vehicle in and we can recommend when new tires may be needed for your vehicle. When it is time to change your tires, make sure to know all your options for what tires would be the best for your vehicle. We can also recommend tires to fit your vehicle, budget, and driving style. If you notice something out of the norm with your vehicle, make sure to schedule an appointment to bring it in. This can help you to get back to a safe and reliable ride.

Careful Driving Tips

When you drive, make sure you drive with care. One of the most important things you can do is to go to regular maintenances with the vehicle. This can help to improve the parts and components of the vehicle. If an issue has formed, we can help to alert you to this. Ignoring a problem is one of the worst things you can do. This will allow the issue to get worse. It can also lead to other parts wearing sooner than they should. Ignoring the first sign of an issue can result in a costly repair bill when it needs to be fixed. By going to regular maintenances, we can inspect the vehicle for any signs of an issue. If you notice a problem between visits, make sure to bring it in as soon as you can. This can help keep the vehicle working in the best condition possible. It can also help to prolong the life of the vehicle.     To help improve the safety when you drive, you will need the visibility to be the best it can be. The windshield and other windows should be clean. Make sure to remove any dirt or build up of debris or road grime. Always make sure that the windshield washer fluid is topped off. This allows you to wash the windshield to remove the build up of grime. It is also recommended to put extra washer fluid in your vehicle. This way if you run out of washer fluid and are not in a place where you can get more, you can have extra fluid in the vehicle that you can replace in the reservoir. Make sure the windshield washer blades are also in good condition. They should be free from any rips or tears on them. If you notice smudge or smear marks, it is an indication that the blades are bad. It is recommended you replace the wiper blades when you start to notice an issue. This can help to improve your visibility when you drive.     The lights are important for the vehicle. Not only do the lights help you to see, but it also helps others to see where you are. The lights are especially important for any night driving you might do, or if the weather becomes worse. Any time you have to use the windshield wipers, the lights should be on as well. Also make sure to check the lights regularly. They should be inspected to make sure they are aimed correctly. This can help improve the visibility of what is ahead of you on the road. Also make sure all the lights and turn signals are working. If one is not, bring it in and we can replace the bulb or fuse for you.     The windshield should be inspected for any issues on it. If there are cracks or divots on the windshield, it should be replaced as soon as you can. If a divot or crack lines up, it could impair your visibility when you drive. If you are unsure if it is time to replace the windshield, bring the vehicle in and we can inspect it for you. By making sure the vehicle is operating efficiently, you can have a safe and reliable ride.

Drive Carefully to Prolong the Life of your Vehicle

It is also important to go to regular scheduled maintenances. We can inspect the vehicle for you and help to determine if any parts are starting to show signs of wear or tear on them. Having the vehicle maintained properly can also help to prevent an unexpected or high repair bill. If there is an issue you notice with the vehicle between visits, make sure to bring it in as soon as possible. This way the vehicle can be as safe and reliable as possible for when you might need it.     Make sure to keep the correct amount of distance between you and the vehicles around you. Normally you should leave at least three seconds between you and the vehicle in front of you. When the roads and weather become worse, the distance should be doubled or tripled. Try not to accelerate or brake fast. This can help to prevent the vehicle from spinning or sliding. It can also help preserve the brakes when you drive. Slamming on the brakes can cause the brake lines to wear out sooner than they should.     When you drive, one of the most important factors is the visibility. Make sure the windshield is clean and clear of any damage or build up of precipitation. The windshield wipers should also be inspected to ensure they could wipe the windshield clean when you drive. Also, make sure all the windows, including the mirrors are scraped off. This can help the visibility, as well as preventing an accident. Build up of ice or snow could fly off and hit vehicles around you. Also make sure that the lights are operating properly. If a bulb needs replacing, make sure to bring the vehicle in. The lights help you to see, as well as help others to see where you are.     The vehicle should be inspected before you drive. Check the tires to make sure they are properly inflated. Tires at the correct air pressure can help to improve the fuel mileage of your vehicle when you drive. If you are uncertain about the condition of the tires, make sure to bring the vehicle in and we can inspect it for you. This can help to provide a safe and reliable ride for you again.
